Locate Insurance Policies and File Claims

Check for life insurance, mortgage insurance, accident insurance and insurance on credit card and loan balances. The deceased’s attorney or CPA may have copies of policies. Life insurance benefits are usually payable to the designated beneficiary and are not part of the estate. To file claims, you will need the policy numbers, the deceased’s full name and certified copies of the death certificate.
