Federal PLUS Loans for Graduate and Professional Students
Please Note:
Different colleges and universities use different terms to describe their higher degree programs. Some use the term “graduate,” others “professional.”
- Available on or after July 1, 2006.
- Borrow up to the cost of attendance for the period of enrollment, minus other estimated financial assistance.
- First payment is due approximately 30 days after the final disbursement of the loan.
- Borrower may receive a payment deferment while enrolled on at least a half-time basis (no grace period if the student falls below a half-time enrollment status).
- Fixed 8.5% interest rate.
- Timely RewardsSM—as long as you make on-time payments, receive a 1 percentage point rate reduction, beginning at loan disbursement and during any deferment period.
- Additional rate reduction of 0.25% when payments are automatically deducted from a Navy Federal checking account or any other financial institution’s savings or checking account.
Eligibility:
The student must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)-fafsa.ed.gov/—and be:
- A Navy Federal member
- A U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a degree or certificate program on at least a half-time basis at an approved school
